For those about to DROP, we salute you....
There's a reason why pros like Cedric Gracia, Brian Lopes and Wade Simmons are all rockin' the Bell Drop - it protects your brain when you're getting out of control! The Bell Drop was designed by the same team that engineered Bell's legendary Moto 8 motorcross helmet. This means that when you pull this bad boy onto your head it's going to protect you, since it meets both the CPSC bicycle standard and the new ATSM downhill standard.
The Bell Drop is made of a durable lightweight In-molded shell made of polycarbonate plastic, with a feature EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam liners that is designed to absorb the energy of an impact so your brain doesn't. This gives it a sturdy feeling, without being excessively heavy or cumbersome. In addition, the helmet has critically placed vents, that allow air to circulate without compromising protection.
Over a few very long shuttle runs, the helmet was comfortable and never felt cumbersome, despite it's rather large silhouette. It stayed nice and cool in the baking Chilean sun as well, a testament to Bell's active venting system.
This helmet does its job with good looks to back it up. It provides confidence inspiring protection without too much weight, plus it's got a terrific price point that will enable everyone to get their mitts on this helmet. However, be sure to throw a little lock tight on the visor screws and keep in mind that it doesn't have a goggle rest, so you'll have to pull them all the way off the helmet. Other than that, simply throw on your trusty Drop and get ready to rock.
You can't go wrong with an MSRP of $130 USD and a street price closer to $99. It's available in a few colors and designs besides the army green we got our hands on, including a fluorescent Cedric Gracia signature edition.
